Concussion Protocol

The Concussion Management Awareness Act provides rules and regulations for the treatment and monitoring of students with mild traumatic brain injuries. The law requires each school coach, physical education teacher, nurse, and athletic trainer to complete on approved course on concussion management every other year.

The Board of Education of the Waterville Central School District recognizes the importance of raising awareness about concussion throughout the school community and to educate students, parents and others about how to prevent, recognize and respond to concussions.

The Board of Education supports the following protocol that has been established in accordance to the National Federation of State High School Associations and the International Conference on Concussion in Sport, Prague 2004. In addition it has been fabricated in a collaborative effort with concussive experts within the Central New York area, the Slocum Dickson Sports Medicine staff and the Waterville Central School District’s medical and administrative staff. As such, it is imperative to remember the safety of the student is the primary concern of the Waterville Central School District.
