Waterville’s Kady Barton isn’t just going the distance — she’s officially running toward her future and has signed a national letter of intent to compete on the Division I track and field team at Stonehill College.

Barton’s commitment marks an exciting milestone in her athletic journey. A standout on the track, she has demonstrated perseverance and leadership throughout her high school career.

Barton earned the CSC Student Scholar-Athlete award and was recognized as a NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete. On the track, Barton has broken two school records. Last spring, she set the 200-meter dash record with a time of 26.39 seconds, surpassing a mark that had stood since the late 1980s. She also established a new school record in the long jump last season with a leap of 18 feet, previously set in 1989. In addition, she holds two relay records and has earned more than five sectional titles and more than five CSC titles.

“Kady’s hard work and determination make her an outstanding athlete,” said Tom Gifford, athletic director. “She demonstrates strong leadership among her peers and shows dedication, commitment and a desire to do her very best.”

Barton will attend Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts, approximately 20 minutes outside Boston. Stonehill College recently transitioned to NCAA Division I competition, offering Barton the opportunity to compete at the highest level of collegiate athletics while pursuing her academic goals. She will major in exercise science and becomes the third female athlete from the district to participate and compete at the Division I level.

The Waterville Central School District congratulates Barton on this achievement and wishes her continued success.
