FFA Students Harvest Sweet Corn for Local Food Pantry


FFA students are all ears this fall as they demonstrated their commitment to service and sustainability through hands-on involvement. On Oct. 14, FFA students headed to Gallagher Farm to glean surplus sweet corn.

Gleaning is harvesting leftover crops after the main harvest, a tradition rooted in agricultural stewardship and community service. The sweet corn collected was donated to the Hope House in Utica, helping provide fresh produce to families in need.

“This was a great way to give back and show how agriculture can directly help our community,” said Ericka Foley, a junior at Waterville Jr./Sr. High School. “It felt good to know the food we picked will go to people who need it.”

This event reflects the district’s commitment to develop leadership, personal growth and community service through agricultural education, as reflected by the FFA program.
