Stop-Arm Cameras Installed on Waterville CSD Buses
The Waterville Central School District has partnered with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department with the installation of stop arm cameras on its 23 buses for the 2022-23 school year. This school-bus safety program is geared toward deterring motorists from illegally passing stopped school buses. The new cameras are being provided at no cost to the district. The program will go live in October.
The cameras and sensors are placed on the exterior of all school buses and capture license plate information on vehicles which pass a stopped school bus when the stop arm is deployed and the lights are flashing. The data is reviewed by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department. Violations are issued to the vehicle's registered owner.
Superintendent Spring said, “The safety of our students is our top priority. We know how dangerous it can be for our students when motorists go around stopped school buses. We are grateful to Sheriff Maciol for bringing this program to Waterville to ensure our children are safe when getting on and off our buses.”
