Waterville CSD Appoints Director of Special Programs
Katie Hansen, Director of Special Programs
On May 10, 2022, the Waterville Central School District Board of Education unanimously appointed Ms. Katie Hansen to the position of Director of Special Programs following a thorough search. She will replace Mrs. Becky Nugent who retired at the end of January and Mrs. Maureen Gray who has been serving as the interim director. Ms. Hansen will begin official duties on June 24, 2022.
Ms. Hansen is currently serving as the Principal of Unadilla Valley Elementary School. She brings over 20 years experience as a special educator and administrator. Her background also includes serving as the Middle School and Primary Principal of the Oxford Central School District and as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum of the Norwich City Schools.
Dr. Jennifer Spring, Superintendent, stated,” Ms. Hansen’s experience as both a school leader and special educator make her an outstanding choice for the position. Her expertise working in rural schools and with both elementary and secondary students, make her a great fit to lead our Special Education program into the future. We look forward to the great work and valuable contributions she will make in collaboration with our students, staff, families and community.”
Ms. Hansen is a graduate of Keuka College. She holds a Master’s degree from Simmons College in Boston and Certificate of Advanced Studies from SUNY Cortland. Ms. Hansen is the proud mom of two daughters, Taylor and Abigail, who attend SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Oswego. “I am excited and honored to be joining the Waterville school community. I look forward to getting to know the students and families and working together to provide meaningful learning experiences for all students,” Ms. Hansen said.
