A little bit about me....

I grew up in Sauquoit, NY and graduated from Sauquoit Valley Central School in 1988.  I then graduated from Houghton College with a degree in Elementary Education in 1988 and SUNY Cortland with a Master's Degree in Literacy in 1996.  I began my teaching career in Sauquoit Valley teaching Kindergarten and First Grade.   After taking a few years off after the births of my two daughters, I found my passion in education: teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills to small groups of children.  My four years spent teaching K-5th grade Reading at New York Mills Elementary cemented this new path in my career.   In 2008, when the opportunity became available to teach in Waterville (my hometown since 1993) I immediately jumped at the opportunity!  I love the time that I am given every day to work closely with students and to help them acquire a basic command of the English language.  I find that I am able to get to know children, their strengths, weaknesses, and personalities, quickly in small groups of 3-6 students.  I love the challenge of learning what motivates them and figuring out what skills they need to become independent readers and writers.
