Brothertown Scholarship

  • April 2021

Dear Scholarship Donors, Friends and Community Members,

The Brothertown Scholarship Fund assists students of the Waterville Central School District with academic scholarships.   All WCS seniors planning to go on to college, technical school/training and the military are eligible to receive a Brothertown Scholarship Award.  Due to the Covid Pandemic, last year was unprecedented.

    • The WCS Class of 2020
    • was not able to complete their senior year with in-school instruction.
    • were not able to participate in the annual recognition dinner at Michael’s Four Eleven Tower where the recipients would have had the opportunity to meet their scholarship donor.
    • did receive an outdoor graduation at the school where our scholarship recipients received their awards along with their diploma.
    • Forty students received a total of $29,700 in scholarship money from Brothertown Scholarship Fund that included four new awards for 2020; Wayne Seely Memorial Award, $250, Kristen Truitt Memorial Award, $250, Linda Furner Memorial Award, 2@$200, John Reile Memorial Award, $500 and an additional John Paul Nagy Award, $500.
    • The WCS Class of 2021
    • only recently have had the opportunity to attend in-person instruction 5 days per week.
    • hopefully will be able to attend an in-person recognition event.
    • will need financial assistance as they pursue post-graduation goals whether it be college, technical school/training or the military.
    • Brothertown Scholarship Fund
    • hopes to be able to host an in-person recognition dinner on June 9th if possible. Tom Owens from Access Federal Credit Union has generously agreed to sponsor the student meals.
    • has added three newly funded scholarships for the Class of 2021 (Mary Beth Rostiser Memorial Award, $500, Mary “Tess” and Salvatore Battaglia Sr. Award, $250 and Andrew & Vicki Sabol Award, $1500).
    • How can you help?
    • continue sponsoring a designated award.
    • make a donation to the general endowment fund or adding your donation to an existing specific scholarship (listed on next page).
    • create your own scholarship (minimum $250) before May 30, 2021 by contacting Brian Bogan (contact information below).

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) – If you are age 70.5 or older, you can make a QCD, or a charitable contribution directly from a pre-tax retirement account to our organization.  This will lower your taxable income, providing a tax benefit for making a charitable contribution; something no longer available to individuals who cannot itemize their taxes.

To donate, please print out the donation form on the left and return to:  Brothertown Scholarship Fund, PO Box 454, Waterville, NY  13480

    Thank you,
