Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Plock

My name is Ellen Plock, and I have been teaching Chemistry and Physics at Waterville High School since 2017.  After earning a batchelor's degree in Chemistry in 1978, I began my career as a science teacher. I hold NYS teaching certificates in Chemistry, Physics and Biology and have been teaching for over 30 years.

I am passionate about science, and it is my greatest pleasure to see that love of science and learning passed on to my studuents, many of whom have gone on in carreers in physics, chemistry, medicine, and other science disciplines.

I have been flipping my classroom since 2012 and have attended and led numerous workshops on the Flipped Classroom. In 2018, I discovered the wonderful tool of Edpuzzle, and use it for all of my classes.

As science and education are ever-changing fields, I strive to meet the challenges of teaching and learning by being involved in various on-line and in-person communities of science educators. I can't do this job alone and am grateful for all the help I have received over the years from many generous colleagues.

I use my knowledge and love of science even in my free time. My hobbies include

-raising butterflies each summer for fun and to tag and release to help track the Monarch butterfly's population and migratory patterns.

-making soap and lotion to share with family and friends (I have been making soap, lotion and bath bombs with my students in the last few years).
