Waterville Poultry Teams Place Third in State Contest

The Waterville senior high and junior high poultry teams recently placed third in the New York State FFA Poultry Evaluation Contest at the New York State Fair.

The FFA students participated in the contest on Aug. 25.

During the contest, students had to:

  • Evaluate laying hens and provide reasons for their placings
  • Grade eggs by internal and external characteristics
  • Grade whole poultry for market
  • Identify cuts of poultry meat
  • Grade processed poultry products
  • Take a written test

Individually, Allyson Ford placed third and McKenna Furner placed ninth in the senior division.

In the junior division, Julianna Eisenhut also placed third and Jace Eisenhut placed sixth.

FFA at Waterville: Through career and leadership development events, participating FFA members in grades 7 to 12 are challenged to develop critical thinking skills and effective decision-making skills, foster teamwork and promote communication while recognizing the value of ethical competition and individual achievement.
