Waterville FFA’s Sweet Contribution Makes a Big Impact
Waterville FFA proved they’ve got all the right ingredients for community service by assembling 82 birthday cake kits. Each kit is designed to help local families enjoy a special birthday celebration. The kits were delivered to the Waterville Food Pantry, where they will be available to households throughout the community.
Each kit includes cake mix, frosting, candles, and other essentials that make a birthday feel festive. For families facing food insecurity, these kits offer not only ingredients but also an opportunity to create lasting memories.
This initiative is part of a statewide effort honoring the 100th anniversary of the New York State FFA. To commemorate the milestone, New York State Grange launched a community service project competition, challenging FFA chapters across the state to create and donate as many birthday cake kits as possible to their local food pantries.
“Everyone deserves to feel special on their birthday and we wanted to make sure kids in our community can have fun celebrating,” said Austynn Wilson, a Waterville sophomore.
“This project allowed our students to connect with the community in a heartfelt way,” said Cynthia Gallagher, Waterville agricultural science teacher. “Thank you to all our donors for helping us with this project.”
The competition runs through April 1, 2026, with prize money to be awarded at the 2026 New York State FFA State Convention.
