MPS Kindergartners Adopt “Library Pets” to Encourage Daily Reading

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Neff's class at Memorial Park Elementary School recently welcomed some unique new classmates into their learning routine: their very own "library pets."

The special stuffed animals live permanently in the school library and come with one very important care requirement: they must be read to every single day.

This creative literacy initiative encourages the District's youngest learners to build strong, daily reading habits in a fun and engaging way. By sharing stories with their designated stuffed animals, students are fostering an early love for books, independent reading and storytelling.

The new program was made possible through a community donation. Library Media Specialist Mrs. Brennan's daughters, Megan and Caroline, generously donated the entire collection of library pets to the kindergarten classroom.

Thanks to their generosity, Memorial Park Elementary students have a cozy, comforting new reason to open up a book and practice their skills daily. Happy reading, Eagles!
