    THE FILMS

    Film and Life Issues is a course that has made use of a great variety of films over the years. Films find their way into the course any number of ways - suggestions from people who know I teach the course and have seen something which moved them, suggestions from students, and also by way of researching film reviews.  Some of the films that were shown when the course started in 2002 are still shown today, since they have proven their worth over and over as  films of value for discussion, reflection, and writing. Other films have not passed the tests of time or value. Still others have found their way into the course as newly made arrivals or at least newly discovered older films.

    The list below is not provided in any way as a syllabus for the course. Instead, it is intended to demonstrate to anyone interested in enrolling in the course the type of films that are often frequented. Some of these films have certainly found more success than others. It is highly likely, though, that every year will continue to bring a mix of new and previously used films, and that I will always try to be open to new possibilities in this very dynamic environment of film.
