Waterville students attended the 36th annual New York State Council of Leadership and Student Activities (NYSCLSA) conference, themed “Electrify Your Leadership.”
Students attended the conference in Niagara Falls from Nov. 23 to 25, where they listened to speakers, participated in mental health workshops and connected with peers from across New York State.
During the conference two students were recognized with prestigious honors. Hayden Rockwell received the Kelly Jeffords Outstanding Leader Award, named in honor of longtime advisor Kelly Jeffords. The award celebrates students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, teamwork and service within their schools and communities.
“Being part of the conference helped me see how leadership is about listening and working together,” said sophomore Hayden Rockwell.
Cole Adams received the Dale Hawley Leadership Award, created to honor Dale Hawley’s lifelong commitment to youth leadership. This award recognizes achievements at the local, state and national levels.
“Experiences like this provide students valuable opportunities to learn beyond the classroom, said Principal Andre Paradis. “Students learned new ways to collaborate, share their voice and grow as a leader.”
The conference reinforced the value of student leadership and gave Waterville students the opportunity to strengthen their skills. Special recognition is extended to advisors Sue Baker, Jenn Dodge, and Michelle Van Slyke, who took the students on the trip.
